It started as a simple spy hunt. It became a desperate battle to save the west. For forty years Western intelligence agents have known a terrible secret: the Russians have a mole code-named
Talbot
inside the CIA. At first Talbot is suspected of killing European agents. Then a street-smart ex-cop uncovers a storm of espionage and murder on the streets of New York, while in a Long Island suburb a civic demonstration against the Russian mission masks a desperate duel of nerves and wits. Engineered by Talbot, a shadow world of suspicion and deceit is spilling onto the streets leading to a new Soviet weapon and a first-strike war plan threatening the foundations of American government. For the U.S., time is running out. For Talbot, the time is now.

BOB BROWN
Slow Start, Fast Finish
This action novel takes place in the 1980s and centers around people associated with World War II's OSS group. They are on the lookout for a Russian double agent code-named "
Talbot
" who they believe may be waiting for the right time to help Russia take over the United States. Indications are that the time is near.
Many of these OSS operatives operate under the guise of a prestigious New York City law firm, O'Brien, Kimberly, and Rose. Former NYC policeman, Tony Abrams has been recruited by the firm for his police background and his ability to speak Russian. Abrams goes from studying to pass the bar exam and being a summons server to helping his new colleagues try to stop the next World War.
I had a hard time sorting out all the characters that are introduced in the first 100 pages, but this story really takes off from there. "The Talbot
Odyssey
" has plenty of action, plot twists, and mystery for any espionage fan. Abrams is an energetic character with lots of grit and a smartallecky sense of humor.
If it was possible I would have to go with only 4.5 stars because the first 100 pages is extremely slow...a great read after that, though.
