This 2005 Caldecott Honor book uses a combination of muted black-and-white photographs and expressive illustrations and tells a brilliantly true-to-life tale about what happens when Daddy?s in charge and things go terribly, hilariously wrong.A Teacher's Perspective This Caldecott Honor book is filled with amazing illustrations. Black and white photographs are superimposed with cartoon-like characters. The story features three main characters, a mom, a dad, and a toddler. The toddler accompanies her dad to the laudromat with her favorite attachment object in tow. Knuffle Bunny finds his way into a washing machine and gets left behind. As the mother of a three-year-old who treasures her blankie, I can certainly relate to this story. I also laughed out loud when I read that Trixie "went boneless" because of my experiences with this phenomena. In the classroom, I'd love to allow children to experiment with this illustration style. Using black and white photos, with their own cartoon images pasted on top. Another option would be to invite children bring and share their own attachment objects from their homes.
