A 20-hour, 20-CD, diverse star-studded audio Bible production of The New Testament. This multi-voiced faithful rendering of the NKJV New Testament is presented in a compelling, dramatic audio theater format.

The arresting world-class audio production immerses listeners in the dramatic reality of the Scriptures as never before. Complete with an original music score by prolific Italian composer Stefano Mainetti ( Abba Pater ), contributions by Dove Award winners Michael W. Smith and Rebecca St. James, and movie quality sound effects that are woven together with compelling narration by Michael York, the Bible comes to life for a new generation. The post-production, sound design and Foley (sound effects) are produced, engineered and mixed at Cerny American Creative in Chicago-an award-winning post-production facility ranked in the Top 3 in the nation for sound design.

Set includes 20-CDs, a Behind-the-Scenes DVD, and "The Promise," an original song written for the project by Michael W. Smith.

Cast includes:

Jim Caviezel (The Passion of the Christ, Deja vu) - Jesus Michael York (Romeo & Juliet, Austin Powers) - Narrator Academy Award winner Richard Dreyfuss (Mr. Holland's Opus, The Goodbye Girl) - Quotes from Moses Academy Award winner Marisa Tomei (My Cousin Vinny, What Women Want) - Mary Magdalene Golden Globe winner Stacy Keach (Prison Break, Hemingway) - Paul Academy Award and Golden Globe winner Lou Gossett, Jr (An Officer and a Gentleman, Roots) - John Terence Stamp (Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Superman II) - Voice of God Kimberly Williams-Paisley (According to Jim, Father of the Bride) - Mary, Mother of Jesus Golden Globe and Tony Award nominee, Lou Diamond Phillips (La Bamba, Young Guns) - Mark John Heard (Prison Break, Home Alone) - Matthew Ernie Hudson (Miss Congeniality, Ghostbusters) - Peter TV Guide's TV's 25 Greatest Teen Idols honoree Luke Perry (Beverly Hills 90210, Jeremiah) - Judas & Stephen John Schneider (Smallville, Dukes of Hazzard) - James Chris McDonald (Happy Gilmore, Quiz Show) - Luke Michael W. The New Testament Comes to Life

As a conservative Christian layman, I have found this breathes new life into the Scriptures. I was looking for the New Testament on CD and found this dramatic reading of the NKJV. What can I say? Just a reading of the cover will tell you of the great talents involved in this wonderful effort. I came away after listening to the entire set feeling as if I had watched an epic motion picture (and you can't quit; you are compelled to listen to one book after the other). It is not only a great witnessing tool, it is great for Bible study and entertainment. You will receive a blessing! Highly recommmended. P.S. The Book of Revelation is especially dramatic!

Everyone should have the Word of Promise

The Word of Promise is fun to listen to because of the multimedia production which includes numerous voices and sound effects. I am surprised that I haven't seen any media advertisement on this project. If people knew it was available, they would buy it. Great to listen to in the car.

Theatrical and Inspiring

As a devout Christian, I love and revere the Word of God.

This dramatization of the New Testament, though loaded with star power (not all of whom are necessarily Christian), generally strikes just the right balance of reverence and drama. Stacy Keach as Paul is a special standout, and I defy you not to weep as he reads the Pastoral Epistles!

Though occasionally I take issue with Jim Caviezel's line readings as Jesus (he sometimes comes off as uncertain, a quality I doubt Christ Jesus has ever possessed), and though I'm mildly disappointed that Michael York rather than Chris McDonald reads most of Acts (Luke was the author of that book, and McDonald gives voice to Luke elsewhere in the dramatization), "The Word of Promise" has become a special favorite of mine over the past year it has been available. Perhaps it will become a favorite of yours.

Good but not Great audio translation of the New testament.

I kinda agree with a few other reviews of this product. i hate to give only 4 stars to a positive learning experience of GODS WORD. Overall it is a very good production. My only complaints are these.
1.)Some of the actors chosen are actors not narrators. meaning this. if they are in a movie they can be seen and heard, live out the parts. when you only get audio, most of these actors do not have strong enough voices to carry their parts.
2.)There are no points to tell you where you are in a book. all you get is ex. the narrators says the (book of matthew.) then he say the (book of mark). no chapter or verses are mentioned.
Those 2 are the only things that could of been improved on. i also have purchased the holy bible on cd with john sherberg and james earl jones. this is my favorite. there are some audio mistakes. but both gentlemen have strong narrative voices and there are chapter marks to tell you where you are listening at in each book. please read my other reviews on products i have purchased. and may GOD bless you. declores.

Read the Bible yourself

With all the cast of actors, music, and sound effects I was expecting to be blown away. Instead, I am finding that the choice of actors to play certain parts just does not seem to be a good match. When they speak you say to yourself, that is not how I would have imagined John the Baptist. Also, I don't feel the actors were putting a lot of effort into the performance. I found myself constantly comparing the performances in this audio production to films like Jesus of Nazareth and The 10 Commandments, no comparison. It was a good attempt, but I would suggest that you read the Bible on your own; you will get more out of it.
