The vast majority of books on
menarche
?the first menstrual cycle?do not address its effect on a young
girl
?s
spiritual
journey
from maidenhood to womanhood. This book outlines the
seven
rituals, or stepping-stones, that a young woman faces on her voyage, marking her way through adolescence. These stepping-stones lead her from the childhood years to the childbearing years and draw attention to a young woman?s changing spirit. Included are ideas for creating
rites
of passage, celebrations, and positive rituals for both mothers and daughters to share during this challenging and amazing time of growth.

Required reading for mothers of daughters
This is a wonderfully comprehensive,
spiritual
ly and psychologically positive guide for the much-maligned yet crucial and valuable process of a
girl
's
journey
through puberty. I enjoyed every page, every insight. Rare is it when a book comes along which actually offers a new perspective and TEACHES me. This is it! Highly recommended. I know these years with my daughter will not be easy, yet I now look forward to them with a new, enlightened and honored resolve. Thank you for writing this book!
Suddenly everything made sense!
I don't have daughters, so it was a fluke that I ever read this book in the first place, but I'm so glad I did. It was like a light being turned on in a room that had always been dark. My own torturous adolescence made sense, and I saw my 5 nieces in a whole new light. I wish I knew (and my parents knew) when I was a young woman the wealth of information in this book.
Today I'm a middle school teacher, and one thing I hear from parents over and over again is that their daughters are strangers to them. I keep telling them to read the "
menarche
" book. I wish I could provide it to all the moms and dads of my female students. I finally decided today to print the info page from Amazon so I could have it in my classroom for reference (and so I could stop calling it by the wrong title!). I plan on giving a copy to every parent, friend, and family member with
girl
s.
I have boys, so I can't wait for Ms. Meisenbach Boylan's "boy" book.
