Not all dreams are sweet.

For seventeen-year-old Janie, getting sucked into other people's dreams is getting old. Especially the falling dreams, the naked-but-nobody-notices dreams, and the sex-crazed dreams. Janie's seen enough fantasy booty to last her a lifetime.

She can't tell anybody about what she does -- they'd never believe her, or worse, they'd think she's a freak. So Janie lives on the fringe, cursed with an ability she doesn't want and can't control.

Then she falls into a gruesome nightmare, one that chills her to the bone. For the first time, Janie is more than a witness to someone else's twisted psyche. She is a participant....

Riveting from page 1!

This was a great book that I devoured in a day. Wow - what a great read! I was only sad when it was over and I found out I have to wait until next year to read the next book in the series!

Great book, real characters and makes you really think about what it would be like to see inside other people's dreams.

Can't wait for FADE!

Great New Paranormal

Lisa McMann hits a home run with Wake. I read it in one day. I just couldn't stop going back to it.

It's written in a short, crisp style that is rarely found. It was a refreshing change from the wordy prose of some authors.

The story is unique and well executed. Janie is able to enter other people's dreams but it isn't all fun and games. I loved following Janie and her struggle to get a hold on her abilities. I also enjoyed the romance between her and Cabel amidst all of this. I look forward to seeing more of it in the sequel.

I highly recommend Wake.

WAKE - Amazing, beyond words

I wasn't sure what to expect with this book when I first bought it. I'd never read anything like it. The story line was much different than the books I read previously, and I was skeptical as to whether or not I would enjoy it.

I went out on that limb and bought the book. And believe me, it did not disappoint. In fact, this book blew my mind. It was one of the best I had ever read.

The way Lisa McMann writes this book is riveting. The dialogue and narration makes you want to keep reading it. (When I bought the book, I stayed up until late hours of the night, refusing to put it down until I finished it.)

Even though i had been worried, the story line was absolutely amazing. You can almost feel as though you are Janie, getting sucked into these people's dreams. You feel the embarrassment of when she wakes up, you feel the nervousness as to whether or not anyone is watching her while she is being warped into the dreams, and you feel the mystery of whose dream it truly is - and what is really going to happen in it.

In addition to all this dream warping, Janie ends up finding Caleb, a new boy interest who has a real past of his own. When Janie and Caleb start falling madly in love, I had to smile, as that completely sold me on the book.

All in all, WAKE is a book that everyone must have on their bookshelves. It is a brilliantly written book and you will want to read it over and over again.

Wake

The narrative is written in rather a sparse style, composed of brief sentences that quickly move events along. It feels like a suspense novel, and it focuses on Janie discovering what she can do and controlling her power. I think Janie's character is written well -- I feel sympathetic towards her situation, because her dream catching ability disrupts her life, but then, I like how she makes the decision to take matters into her own hands, to take control and not let her ability rule her.

The dynamic between Janie and Cabel flips back and forth, which is somewhat disconcerting, though it does make sense near the end. Overall, I like their relationship and think it is the highlight of the book -- there are brief instances of humor, plus a number of really sweet moments. Even though Cabel is clearly out of his element in dealing with Janie's situation, he still takes care of her when he can. There seems to be genuine feeling between the two, which I find enjoyable.

The novel includes a preview of the next installment in the series (Fade), which I am looking forward to. I think it will be interesting to see where the story goes and to find out what else will happen to Janie and Cabel.
