All you want is more!

This is a historical DVD: remember it was filmed back in 1979, when very few acts did the same; it was meant for TV and not for the big screen (as was Abba The Movie); it was BEFORE MTV and when video clips where called promo videos or music videos... This said, sit down if you can and enjoy the four super Swedes, their super band, the roller-skates cameramen, the cheering audience... let it go! I don't get the sound issue as many have said since I have just a regular 2.0 TV set, but ABBA rocks and kick it here with superior instrumental and vocal skills. It's a natural perfomance like those you don't see nowadays. Of course you miss the complete Waterloo or Take A Chance On Me videos; you naturally feel like hanging the editors for chopping half of Knowing Me, Knowing You or the full Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! live version (instrumental/dance solo); you can't understand in life why Eagle was put aside, with that great guitar solo... but that's because even those typical low-profile Swedish TV people at that time weren't sure about ABBA's longevity... At the end all you want is more!

For every ABBA fan

My only complaint about the CD is the duration. Songs are incomplete and some just play in the background, like Eagle. A lot of footage showing the members preparing, rehearsing etc are shown. If only more songs had been recorded it would only have satisfied more discerning ABBA fans like me. ABBA is truly a great live act. They sold out Wembley on consecutive nights, something that even seasoned rock acts weren't capable of. I don't listen (or watch them) like I do with other bands but they have certainly stood the test of time as their fan base keeps growing even to this very day.

When I started listening to pop and rock in the early 80's ABBA was my favorite. Only The Beegees could make a better impression. The other band was Boney M that I stopped listening to in those early years but Lonely Planet, the travel authority mentions that Boney M is still played in pubs in some south-east asian countries. However ABBA is going to be remembered and listened to as long as pop lives.

Sound and picture quality are great on this DVD. I only wished it had lasted longer.

5 stars, inspite of the complaint.

ABBA in Concert

The 1979 Wembly Arena concert in London encompassed footage from the American tour. The group maps out the tour on a cake shaped like the U.S. The cities are mostly across the northern tier. In London, they wear blue and white spandex against a background of icebergs. The concert is grand, and ABBA is poised. Frida's dance routine in Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! is enjoyable. Her movements have the grace of a professional dancer. The women look to be six feet tall! Voulez-Vous is smooth. Hole In Your Soul has more fire than the studio cut. And isn't it provocative when the women kneel beside the jamming Lasse Wellander on Does Your Mother Know? Benny tickles the ivories midway through I Have A Dream, and Agnetha's eyebrows go up for Take A Chance On Me. Agnetha's daughter, Linda, appears for I Have A Dream. As a finale, Benny drags out his accordion for The Way Old Friends Do. This live version is on the Super Trouper album. Soaking up the applause!

Steve B's review

Expected them to play more of their hits. The video spent more time on behind the scenes footage than the actual concert itself. It was also to short. The greatest hits DVD is much better.
