2006 digitally remastered reissue of the classic Disney animation film that was the first "shot over the bow" that heralded the modern era of full length computer animated motion pictures. The soundtrack music was composed and performed by renowned keyboardist Wendy Carlos with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, with 2 songs performed by the rock group Journey. This edition adds 3 tracks not on the original issue: "
Tron
action (Original Version)", "Break In (For Strings, Flutes, And Celesta)" and "Anthem For Keyboard Solo".
A Soundtrack Where The Music Takes You to Another World
As someone who is a big fan of movie soundtracks and in particular of film scores, I initially took an interest in the "
TRON
" film score when browsing Amazon for another film CD and just happened to come across the "TRON" soudtrack. After checking out the short sound bites and after reading a lot of raved reviews on it, I decided to check out the film for the first time. When looking for the soundtrack a lot of people told me that "TRON" was a good movie and after viewing it with an opened mind I have to say that composer Wendy Carlos' score adds an intriguing blend of suspense, high tech adventure and wonder to an amazing story. The two songs by the rock group Journey, "Only Solutions" and the "1990's theme" are a lot of fun to listen to and scores like "Sea of Simulation, Solar Sail" and the "End Titles" tracks both bring an interesting style to the score.
The soft, haunting and adventurous melodies throughout the entire score make it easy to just get lost in the rhythmn of the music. TRON's score combines a rich and unique mix of orchestral ingenuity and imagination that is unlike any other soundtrack score for its time. It serves to complement an original story with a lot of unpredictable twists and turns that will take you on an amazing journey to another world. Both the film and the soundrack are worth checking out. Much like "The Matrix" if you look at it with an open mind, I guarantee you that you will not be disappointed.

Great music for a great film
Tron
's music by Wendy Carlos is surely one of the most innovative soundtracks I've ever heard (even though it's been 20+ years since its release). This is a mix of electronic music with orchestral arrangements, a rare combination that works great because of the film's theme, the computer world (which in several aspects resembles the real world). It's not often that you can listen to synthesizers along with a pipe organ, but this seemingly strange combination works fine in giving the film a very special mood, which I always thought was more appropiate for adults (the film is a Disney production, but the script is a bit dark and the story line deals with not-so-childish concerns - which I think it's great, but not specially appealing for children). So, the music really enhances that particular, perhaps a-bit-sombre tone, without neglecting the fact that the action takes place inside a computer. The best soundtracks I've heard, share one thing in common: they all blend with the story to the point that you can't imagine the film without the music, because it becomes a fundamental part of it, almost like another character, merging in one great audiovisual experience. This is true of some great works, like "The Mission" or "A Clockwork Orange" (also by Wendy Carlos with a little help from Beethoven), or "Chariots of fire", and of course, I believe this is also true of Tron.
