FORTUNE IS A WRITER LIKE THIS

WARNING: If you are accustomed to reading lesbian romance novels, reading this book may cause extreme bouts of euphoria.

If you have read THE SECRET KEEPING, (which you'll want to do before you read its sequel), then it won't surprise you to discover that FORTUNE IS A WOMAN is not your ordinary romance novel. In fact, there is nothing even remotely ordinary about this book, and thank goodness for that! Francine Saint Marie's second novel is a rich, absorbing, and powerfully evocative tale of love, sex and (more than two) modern women. This book will sweep you off your feet, take you on a wild and unexpected ride, and leave you dangling precariously off a giant precipice. Fortunately, though, you won't have to wait several months like I did to be rescued, as the third book in the trilogy, THE STOLEN KISS, has finally been released.

FORTUNE IS A WOMAN is one of the most enjoyable books I have ever read, and this is no doubt due to the fact that its style is every bit as engaging as its substance. The language is exceptionally fluent overall, the prose vivid, tight and polished, and the dialogue so eloquent and sharp-witted it begs to be read over and over again. The author possesses, in addition to her golden tongue, unfettered imagination, and keen intellect, a special gift for developing larger-than-life characters, and allowing the reader access to their very depths. It is easy to get lost inside these women.

Francine Saint Marie's books are the crème de la crème of this genre, and FORTUNE IS A WOMAN is a bold and ingenious work of art, a masterpiece of lesbian fiction that will stir your sensibilities and warm your blood. It is a book to be devoured, and savored, at once. So what are you waiting for? Treat yourself!

Second as good as first!

Bitch's the word, time o' crisis and me having bought this book when I stumble upon the free version after the fact :) (But just because I wanted to post a review, HELLO). No mind, it's a MUST READ, and paying for it is nothing off my back, considering what I all paid for so far!

Serious now, I thought the characters in the first book, The Secret Keeping, couldn't be improved or surpassed in any way, but what a surprise, enter Venus stage left! Symbolic name, too, this Venus name! And another character that's not too vivid in the first book, Paula Treadwell, becomes a full-fledged entity in this second part. Or should I say Super Paula Treadwell.

It's difficult to explain why this book is just as good as the first in the series, it's different when it comes to story building, the first is organized in parts, and in each part you get a version of the story, but this is a bit more like a jigsaw puzzle, and each chapter is a different perspective and a different take on pretty much the same situation. So I guess it depends on personal taste here. It's GREAT though, I can say that.

There is nothing quite like it available in all of Amazon. Of that, I'm fairly sure, because I've looked.

Not meant to be a spoiler, but it's been mentioned in previous reviews: The end of this book is ... ahh ... how to say it ... difficult? :) Suffice it to say, I must get on with part three now!

Too good

Well I paid for my kindle copy and it was certainly worth every penny.

The problem with reading Francine Saint Marie is that for a little while after, everything else sucks. It's too good.

..."Have you eaten anything today?"
"Yeah, I had some olives."...

perfect

I'm into the third book now and have also read the author's sort of memoir which says it's about to be discontinued for some reason. The title of the book is ;-). If there is such a thing as too clever this might be it. (search amazon for the author's name then look for the kindle version of ";-)"

No matter how much I recommend these FSM books to my partner she won't read them because they are on my kindle and she lumps the kindle in with tivo and cell phones and other evils that will someday spark a zombie virus or a terminator-like coup of humans. Since she won't read the books I have to describe them to her because I can't help myself from sharing a good thing. But when I try to describe the plot, the books sound ridiculous because I can't adequately portray the prose and wit and the perfect way the author balances the sexy with the gin and the corporate with the waiter and the honor with the dishonor among women.
