Schubert: Symphonies Nos. 3 & 4 ("Tragic") Franz Schubert, Alfred Scholz, ...
Ent. Media Partners, 1997
Great "mystery" Schubert
Scholz was a conductor and teacher who, in the 1970s, recorded and produced a lot of the mainstream repertoire for the bargain market. We can't be entirely certain who conducted these performances (provenance being something of a legal hinderance in this area!), but there's no doubt that these are ...

EMI Classics, 1995
A timely re-release from Capitol's vaults!
+ A nice memento of Fifties ballet conducting + An Excellent Ballet Highlight Album
The ballets of Tchaikovsky have received some great, more frequently lousy recordings. Such isn't the case with these revelatory recordings from deep in Capitol/EMI's vaults. "The Nutcracker" excerpts are just as sparkling as one could wish under Felix Slatkin and well recorded by the Hollywood ...

Vivaldi: Concertos on Authentic Instruments Antonio Vivaldi, Alberto Lizzio
Point Classics, 1997
Viva Vivaldi!
"Concertos on Authentic Instruments" features a series of compositions by Vivaldi. The selections are performed by the Musici di San Marco, conducted by Alberto Lizzio. This is elegant, lovely, relaxing classical music. The "authentic instruments" mentioned in the CD's curious title include flute, ...

A FINE FIFTH!!! (AT A FIFTH OF THE PRICE)
+ Wonderful discovery at a bargain price
From the initial horn call of the first movement (Trauermarsch) that summons its early cataclysmic opening, through the episodic funeral march, with its schizophrenic jubilance and sorrow, give and emotional take, we realize quickly that Nanut's understanding of this awesome work is complete, ...

Tchaikovsky: Violin Concerto; Serenade for Strings Pyotr Il'yich Tchaikovsky, Pierre Narrato, ...
Ent. Media Partners, 1997
Good and enjoyable but not great
These two beautiful works by Tchaikavsky are performed on this recording by the Festival Orchestra of Belgium conducted by Pierre Narrato. I purchased this recording because I did not have a copy of either of these works. The identity of violin soloist is not mentioned on either the CD or in the ...

Mussorgsky: Pictures at an Exhibition; Night on Bald Mountain Modest Mussorgsky, Jahni Mardjani, ...

The depth of friendship and the meaning of life.
+ good value + Detailed Classical Tribute plus More
Initially I was attracted to Mussorgsky because a couple of the musical vignettes that comprise "Pictures at an Exhibition" were used as character or event themes in the cartoon series "The Smurfs", to wit, "The Gnome" and "Tuileries". Eventually going beyond the mere entertainment value of ...

Great music, good performance
This couple of concertos is a very good choice. The bright, elegant, witty Mozart concerto and the renowned Neethoven 4th, a piece which really has everything you might expect from the Master. And you must buy it, because of the price (surely!) but also for the quality of performance. Peter Lang ...

Worth buying album
After searching ard to source for the most pleasant-listening Vivaldi 4 seasons, this is one of those that can really make one lay back and relax the entire music. The articulation of each single musical instruments is beautifully defined. Dynamics are just right for the pieces.
