Queenmaker: A Novel of King David's Queen India Edghill
Picador, 2002
SHOULD HAVE BEEN CALLED "THE KINGMAKER"
+ Very good read + Another Compelling Page Turner---Different Take on Familiar Biblical Stories
With an abundance of historical and biblical fact, a bit of speculation and a dash of supposition, India Edghill has created an exciting and admirable character in Michal, daughter of Saul (Israel's first King)
and first wife of David. We are introduced to Michal first as the naïve farmer's ...

The Song of Hannah: A Novel Eva Etzioni-Halevy
Plume, 2005
I was transported!
+ The Bookschlepper Recommends
For the short time it took me to read this book (I couldn't put it down), I was totally transported in time and place. Was this what life was really like for these Biblical characters? Etzioni-Halevy certainly gives us some food for thought and she does it in such a perfectly composed manner that ...

Rebekah (Women of Genesis) Orson Scott Card
Forge Books, 2002
Beautiful.
+ loved it!
My husband got me 3 of the Women in Gen series for my birthday, and I am so glad he did. These are written as "fiction" but it is evident that there is a lot of research put into it as well. Card portrays an honest view of Jewish life far surpassing the vulgar cave-man "Red Tent" version. My ...

Sarah: Women of Genesis Orson Scott Card
Forge Books, 2001
I recommend it!
+ Not sci-fi- but as well crafted as always + Even atheists like this book!
Wonderful storytelling, as always with Card. This was a great way to get you thinking about the women in the Bible, and the faith it took for them to live a life devoted to God and their husbands.
I very much enjoyed Card's comments at the end explaining how he researched the stories, and why ...

Sarah: A Novel (Canaan Trilogy) Marek Halter
Three Rivers Press, 2005
Great read
+ Historical + A New Empathy for an Old Character
This book is a great piece of historical fiction. Some reviewers seem concerned about possible historical inaccuracies, but historical fiction is just that - fiction! The author did a great job of telling his interpretation of the story behind the woman in the Bible. I found it entertaining, ...

A Strong Mary
+ Mary of Nazareth is an enthralling read + A different Mary - A real Mary
Halter's imaginings create a portrait of Mary unlike any in recent works. She is a strong and passionate woman living in a male dominated world. She is an active participant in her world not content to sit idly by. Halter did a great job of laying the seeds of her story which after centuries of ...

I usually don't buy historical fiction. After reading the description of the book, I HAD to buy it. I'm glad I did. I just couldn't put it down! Trudy Morgan-Cole did a wonderful job bringing the story of Esther to life. I am looking forward to reading more by her.
